Aim
To support the consultation process of the council’s regeneration plan in Wirral and New Brighton in particular, the Qualitative Insight Team gathered insights on local businesses’ understanding and expectations from the regeneration of their local area.
People engaged with
Insights were gathered from six business people from New Brighton. These included businesses from hospitality, arts and crafts and there also were two people from community organisations that work with the business community of New Brighton.
Methods
A focus group was held with businesses from hospitality, arts and crafts and there were two people from education and community organisations that work with the business community of New Brighton.
Key insights
Regeneration offers many prospects for various opportunities financially as more people will be visiting the area. A lot of young people are leaving New Brighton as soon as they can. You know that when they reach a certain age they are gone. The area needs to be smartened up. This is a process that starts from the ground up. Clearing weeds from pavements, cleaning streets. We need to make sure that people regain pride in their community and their area, regeneration is offering this opportunity. We need to regenerate our attitude towards where we live and the people around us. Regeneration of aspiration, we need confidence to believe that positive change is possible.
