What activities/events do community members want to see at the Tranmere Scout and Guide Institute in the future?

Members of the fundraising team at the Scout and Guide Institute in Tranmere piloted a survey to ask local community members, "What activities and events would you like to see at the Institute in the future?".
This survey was shared with attendees of our book sale in May 2024. 13 community members shared their thoughts and ideas with us. Our fundraising team have used this community insight to plan further activities and events in the building for 2024/2025.
Insights gathered: May 2024
Insights gathered by
Tranmere Scout and Guide Institute Fundraising Team.
This group consists of representatives of our resident Scouting and Guiding groups, Institute volunteers and caretakers of the building.
Aim
Our fundraising team wanted to capture the thoughts and ideas of our local community on what activities and events they would like to see at the venue in the future. This information would help our fundraising team to plan new activities and events based on community feedback.
People engaged with
30 people attended our book sale in May 2024. 13 of those attendees completed our survey. This included people who attended the venue regularly and those who attended the venue for the first time on that day.
Methods
Community feedback was gathered via a paper survey that was distributed to attendees of our book sale in May 2024. Community members provided their thoughts and ideas anonymously. This information was inputted into a Microsoft Form which then produced an Excel file of data from our survey respondents. This data was then analysed using thematic analysis, to identify key themes raised by our survey respondents.
Key insights
Survey respondents shared they would like to see:
- More sales - such as book sales, car boots, jumble sales, table sales, bric-a-brac and flea markets.
- More events - such as fundraising events, family events, summer fetes, craft markets, baby and child fairs, dog shows, plays/recitals and afternoon tea.
- More activities and groups - such as coffee mornings, sports activities for young people, employment skills for young people and parents, and dance lessons.
- Wider community involvement – to bring more people from the local community into the building and its events/activities.
- Refreshments at events - providing teas and coffees to events such as the book sale.
Quotes

"More sales. Sport activities for young people. Upskilling and employment skills for young people or parents".
How have the insights been used/shared?
Our fundraising team have used these insights to plan further events in 2024/2025. This has included the establishment of our Maker's Market (craft fair) which has been a great success with community members and community vendors/businesses. We have also purchased two new banners to promote our building hire to the wider community that we have placed on our building in view of the main road. This has helped to encourage more local groups to use meeting spaces in our building and has brought new people and communities into the building.
